Some states require the PMP data file be submitted containing an 11 digit NDC number. Many drugs only contain 10 digits on the bottle and package and may require conversion (depending on which state you are in).
- Conversion requires adding in a "0" into the NDC number, depending on the current format.
- 4-4-2 format - add 0 to the 1st position
- 5-3-2 format - add 0 to the 6th position
- 5-4-1 format - add 0 to the 10th position
- For example:
10 Digit Format | Example | 11 Digit Conversion |
4-4-2 | 9999-9999-99 | 09999-9999-99 |
5-3-2 | 99999-999-99 | 99999-0999-99 |
5-4-1 | 99999-9999-9 | 99999-9999-09 |
